Questions to think about

1) Do you understand Shabbat any differently now that you have done some of the Melachot?

2) What do the Melachot have to do with the way you practice Shabbat today?

Hi Students, please answer these questions as best you can and leave some other questions for others to answer after you about what we are doing in class.

1) Yes, because it changes my views of Shabbat. I now know how specific the rules are on Shabbat.

2) They set the groundwork for what we are allowed to do and what we aren't allowed to do on Shabbat.

First, I do understand Shabbat better because some of the Melachot influence my opinions for the better, and some I have different thoughts on. Either way, I feel like I know more about it, and that helps me form my desisions on what I think personally.
Second, today the Melachot are a big part in shaping what is Shabbat today, and what is just old traditions. Basically, what Eyal said, and that they do more than set the bases of rules- they also keep whoever is following them in a way, kind of boxed up, and ou don't want to manuver out of the box, because that would be going against the Shabbas's rules.
